9N won't turn over

This is my first tractor, a 1939 9N. When starting it was taking a number of tries before it stayed running. The last time I tried starting it it turned over, started, chugged a bit and died. It did this a few times, and then the next time I pushed the starter no sound. No click, no starter, nothing. I charged the battery to be sure, but it was fully charged, And it's a new battery. Tractor has the 12V conversion. Any idea what could be the problem?

UBetcha Outdoors

For the NAA 6 volt which wire goes from the coil to the distributor? The positive or the negative? My guess is the positive. Also, when changing batteries or after prolong periods without a battery connected do you have excite the generator by temporariily hooking the positive cable to the negative side of the battery and the negative to the positive. Great site! Thanks in advance.

Sputtering 9N

I hope someone can help me out! My 9N which I run for about 1 hour a month starts fine, when idling the engine sputters. Every now and then when the tractor is moving it seems to lose power like it's about to stall, then it continues to move. The sputtering seems to continue regardless of where I set the idle. FYI, It hasn't had a tune up in about 5 years, not sure if thats what it needs. Any idea what I should do? Thanks

NAA Fluids

Hi Tbury!

The non-foaming 80w oil that was used in the NAA is now very hard to find. We have switched to a non-foaming 90w. It is expensive if your doing a complete change rather than just topping off, but the old tractors can be a bit picky about what they'll run on :>)

Owner Ford Golden Jubilee

I have a Golden Jubilee tractor that has a problem of getting stuck out of gear when it is shifted into reverse. It gets stuck between a high speed or one that locks up the transmission and kills the tractor. It usually comes back into nuetral after the gear shift is moved many times. I was wondering if anyone else has experience this and what can be done about it. Any help would be appreciated.
